2013 was the year that the states of New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware legalized online gambling, specifically online poker websites. So far, the state of New Jersey has proven to be the most successful state, as it has the type of population and responsiveness that allow it to be a role model for other states.
The PokerStars Controversy
The world’s largest online poker website ,PokerStars, together with its partner Resorts Casino Hotel, has not been approved by the New Jersey Game Control Department and has been unable to join the state of New Jersey at November 26th.
In a comment made by Eric Hollreiser of PokerStars, he commented that PokerStars had originally chosen the Atlantic Club for its partner, but that at the last minute the club left the contract and therefore PokerStars, to try to obtain its license, decided to establish a partnership with Resorts Casino Hotel.
PokerStars’ original choice, Atlantic Club, was discontinued in December 2013. As a result, about 1,800 people lost their jobs and the casino was then split between Tropicana Entertainment and Caesars Entertainment. Hollreiser also said in his blog post that he does not share or agree with the same management practices that led to the dismissal and disappointment of thousands in New Jersey.
However, nothing has stopped PokerStars from continuing to seek a license to operate in the state of New Jersey. Also continuing to set up websites in states that have already legalized online gambling.
The PartyPoker Mobile App
In other news PartyPoker, the online poker chest of bwin.party announced the launch of its mobile application for New Jersey players. The application can be accessed through iPad Touch, iPhone and iPad.
